“42” Star Chadwick Boseman Tapped to Play James Brown in Movie

Jan Persson/RedfernsUniversal Pictures has cast Chadwick Boseman, who played Jackie Robinson in the movie 42, to star as James Brown in an upcoming film about the late singer, Deadline.com reports.

The movie tracks Brown’s rise from extreme poverty to become the Godfather of Soul and one of the most influential music artists in history.

The project is being co-produced by another music legend, The Rolling StonesMick Jagger and his company Jagged Films, in conjunction with Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer.

The still-untitled film will be directed by Tate Taylor, who directed The Help.

Deadline reports Brown was actively involved in developing the movie project until his death in 2006.
