It’s been nearly two decades, but the world is still in mourning the loss of R&B singing sensation Aaliyah in a deadly 2001 plane crash at the age of 22.
Aaliyah released three double-platinum albums during her brief career, but only her 1994 debut release Age Ain’t Nothing is available for streaming. But that’s all about to change. On Tuesday, Aaliyah’s estate announced that fans will soon have access to her entire music catalog via streaming.
“To our loyal fans: We are excited to announce that communication has commenced between the estate and various record labels about the status of Aaliyah’s music catalogue, as well as its availability on streaming platforms in the near future,” the statement read on Twitter. “Thank you for continuing love and support.”
Aaliyah’s catalog has been under the purview of her uncle, Barry Hankerson, the founder of Blackground Records and her first manager.
Fans on social media are filled with joy about the world soon having access to Aaliyah’s early #1 singles “Back & Forth,” “If Your Girl Only Knew,” “Are You That Somebody?” and countless other singles produced by hitmakers Timbaland and Missy Elliot.
“Your music has always been 10 steps ahead & your sound is still futuristic,” Missy wrote on Twitter in response to the streaming news. “Your fashion has always been one of a kind. You rocked your outfits with swag & sauce! Just know that you are still inspiring generations till this day. We love you.”
