Age ain’t nothing but a number: Naomi Campbell slays on the 50th anniversary cover of ‘Essence’ magazine

by

Naomi Campbell Naomi Campbell took matters into her own hands for the 50th anniversary cover of Essence magazine.

In an Instagram post, the supermodel shared that she took the photo of herself for the glossy cover that celebrates the magazine’s major milestone.

“It was a very special honor and unusual experience for me to be able to shoot and style my own cover for Essence’s 50th Anniversary Issue. On my iPhone,” Campbell writes.

“While it was a sad reminder for me of all the people in media and production who are not able to work due to the coronavirus, it also brought me hope and encouragement to know that our people and our infrastructures are resilient,” she continues. “We are rooted in knowledge and creativity and continue to take back full control of our narratives. We will come out of this stronger than ever.”

Campbell, who will celebrate her 50th birthday later this month, wears a vintage Chloé dress from her own closet on the cover, which she styled herself — along with the rest of her looks.

In her feature story, the model opens up about her sobriety and daily routine, which she says includes praying daily, working out, taking vitamins, and disciplined living.

“Everyone knows that I’m in recovery.  I feel blessed and grateful to have my health today,” she says, adding that she doesn’t “drink alcohol or do anything that’s mind-altering.”

Campbell says she’s also “embracing” getting older.  “I’m embracing being here, living, breathing.  All the simple things we took for granted now matter so much more than ever before.”
