Alicia Keys is letting bygones be bygones when it comes to that viral moment back in the day when Lil Mama crashed her performance with JAY-Z.
As fans may recall, back in 2009 while performing “Empire State of Mind,” Lil Mama hopped on stage with the duo, a moment that clearly was not planned. In a recent interview with The Morning Hustle Show, Keys was asked if she forgave the “Lip Gloss” rapper, to which she replied, “Of course.”
“Listen, to this day, I truly never knew she was even on the stage — that’s the craziest part of the whole thing for me,” the “If I Ain’t Got You” singer continued. “I was on that stage, JAY was in the middle, she was on the other side of JAY, and I never saw her. Never.”
Although Key’s admitted it was “wild” that she never noticed Lil Mama on stage, she added, “But I absolutely — it’s not even a statement. That was then. You know, she’s from New York, too.”
“I think she really felt the energy of the record and she loved it and she couldn’t hold herself back. Look, this is what my music does to people,” Alicia joked. “What can we say?”
