Last week, Alicia Keys held the 10th Annual Keep a Child Alive Black Ball at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. However, before she performed alongside Pharrell Wiliams, she and her husband, Swizz Beatz, paused to tell reporters about how much the couple is enjoying raising their 3-year-old son, Egypt Daoud Dean.
“He’s amazing, he swims by himself already, he does everything like he’s so independent,” Alicia gushed. “He’s extremely smart. I ask him to count in tens from 50 to 100 and he can do it!”
With the holiday season quickly approaching, Swizz chimed in that Christmas shopping should be easy since there isn’t any toy in particular that Egypt is hoping for this year.
“He’s not a spoiled child, like he doesn’t want a lot,” Swizz told ABC News Radio. “Like, he will go to the Toys R Us and pick two things, you know, he’s not like, ‘I want this, I want that!’ No, even like when he went to gymnastics class, they offered him like, ‘You can take all the candy,’ and he said, ‘No, I just want one.’ And then he took one for his brother and then that was it.”
When asked what’s been the biggest highlight for the producer, who contributed to Jay Z‘s Magna Carta… Holy Grail, Swizz explained to ABC News Radio why his family takes the cake.
“Man, I don’t know, just waking up to my family. Just waking up everyday and being able to do the things that God is letting us do, I’ll say that’s the highlight,” Swizz replied.
In addition to having a great kid, Alicia considers her husband to be a blessing. “He’s like the most romantic person in the world, like, he’s just very unique and he’s very thoughtful and he always introduces me to new things, which I think is the thing that makes us really compatible together,” she explained.
So what exactly does Swizz open her eyes to? “You know, he’s always showing me like a new incredible artist, or a beautiful place to go or another way to think about how to approach something,” Alicia revealed. “And it’s so incredible to have someone whose kind of helping you realize that you can always grow in a real supportive way, so we’re a really good couple.”
The pair has been together since fall 2008.
