Alicia Keys doesn’t consider herself a big TV watcher, but she made sure to tune in every week to her “favorite” show, Empire. As she gears up to make her guest starring appearance on FOX’s hit TV show, the singer reveals more details about her mysterious character, Sky Summers.

“[Sky] is an artist, and she is really looking for the next place that she’s going,” Keys says. “She’s really looking to break out of maybe the boxes that have started to close in on her as an artist.  And she’s fantastic.  She’s really a lot of fun.”

“I’ve had a great time putting her together, really creating a character. And, you know, there’s very specific things we talked about.  I have been talking about to make Sky come to life,” Keys says, noting that the character is not just a version of herself.

Keys also reveals the meaning behind “Powerful,” the song she sings on Empire with Jussie Smolett.

“It’s the perfect song about right now, you know.  Not only socially in America, really talking about how we all matter, you know, and one of my favorite lines in the song is, ‘I see a colorful future where skin don’t define any human, and stars are the only things shooting.’  And it’s really, it’s really beautiful, obviously with all the things we’ve been dealing with, you know.  So  that, that was really great to have,” Key says.

You can catch Alicia on the hit Fox show on November 25 at 9 p.m ET.  Alicia’s is just one of many guest appearances this season — previous Empire cameos include Kelly Rowland, Chris Rock and Lenny Kravitz.
