Credit: AmazonFans of Guava Island are in for a special treat: Amazon Prime wants to take you further behind the scenes of the tropical musical.
The Donald Glover-led film, which also stars Rihanna, will be complemented by a series of videos detailing the creative process behind the film, Entertainment Weekly reports. Viewers will be given a glimpse into the scenic locations of Cuba utilized in the movie as well as the history and tradition of the music featured throughout. The local talent of Cuban actors, dancers, and musicians will also be highlighted.
Premiering earlier this year at Coachella, Guava Island tells the story of Deni (Glover), a musician determined to throw a music festival for his native island. Amidst political strife, Deni struggles to keep the festival on track and comfort his girlfriend, Kofi (Rihanna). The film incorporates several of Glover’s songs, which he released under his rap moniker Childish Gambino, including “This Is America” and “Summertime Magic.”
“I had the pleasure of experiencing this spirit of ‘making what you must with what you have’ collaborating with Cuba’s talented and abundant artists over the course of filming Guava Island,” Glover said in a statement. “The artist’s endeavor has always been the manifesting of an idea, then forcing a society to recognize, or maybe just question, its value.”
He added: “I’m very proud to be able to share their stories with you.”
