Hamilton’s voice is powerful and graceful at the same time on the soft ballad, which samples Rick James‘ and Teena Marie‘s classic “Fire and Desire” with a production credit from 9th Wonder

The soulful singer reflected back to his childhood days, telling Rated R&B that listening to tracks like “Super Freak” and “Fire and Desire” made him want to sing.

“I wrote the song in a way to make it feel like Rick was singing along with me,” Hamilton says. “‘Back Together’ pays homage to one of the greats.”

“To me, it’s also about love and getting back together with someone you knew was special,” he adds. “In this time of COVID-19, it took on a new meaning too. It means getting back to our lives. Be close to those who are special to you. We all want to be close to anybody right now.”

The single comes from his upcoming album expected this summer, following 2016’s What I’m Feeling, featuring his Billboard Hot 100 single “Turks.”

During this time of quarantine, Anthony has been extremely active with COVID-19 relief efforts. He helps millions cope at home with his intimate performances on Instagram Live and partnerships with MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund and more.
