After being sidelined for several months by unspecified health problems, Aretha Franklin is ready to return to the stage. The Queen of Soul has scheduled a December 21 concert in Detroit at the MotorCity Casino Hotel’s intimate Sound Board venue, which has a capacity of 2,400.
The show, dubbed “An Evening with Aretha Franklin,” will start at 8 p.m. CT. Tickets go on sale this Thursday at Ticketmaster outlets and Ticketmaster.com, with prices running from $65 to $95.
In mid October, Franklin announced at a press event that she’ll begin recording a new studio album this month in Detroit that will be co-produced by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Don Was. The project, which is the brainchild of music mogul Clive Davis, will feature a mix of original material and classic covers.
“Mr. Davis said he doesn’t just want another CD,” Aretha explained at the conference. “He wants a blockbuster event.”
