Aretha Franklin Schedules Detroit Concert in December

by

Aretha’s RecordsAfter being sidelined for several months by unspecified health problems, Aretha Franklin is ready to return to the stage.  The Queen of Soul has scheduled a December 21 concert in Detroit at the MotorCity Casino Hotel’s intimate Sound Board venue, which has a capacity of 2,400.

The show, dubbed “An Evening with Aretha Franklin,” will start at 8 p.m. CT.  Tickets go on sale this Thursday at Ticketmaster outlets and Ticketmaster.com, with prices running from $65 to $95.

In mid October, Franklin announced at a press event that she’ll begin recording a new studio album this month in Detroit that will be co-produced by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Don Was.  The project, which is the brainchild of music mogul Clive Davis, will feature a mix of original material and classic covers.

“Mr. Davis said he doesn’t just want another CD,” Aretha explained at the conference.  “He wants a blockbuster event.”
