Ashanti fans may have been bummed when Lifetime’s Army Wives was cancelled recently, but the singer has scored two new acting roles, beginning with a guest appearance on NBC‘s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
“I’m playing a celebrity judge in the SVU world of a singing competition show called ‘American Diva,'” Ashanti explains in a statement. Fans can catch Shani in an episode called “Dissonant Voices,” which airs tonight, Wednesday, November 6, at 8 p.m. ET.
In addition, the singer has been tapped to star as Teanna, a store consultant, in the TV movie Christmas in the City, premiering December 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the Lifetime Network. The network has also enlisted her vocal talents for a newly recorded version of the classic “Let It Snow,” which will be used throughout Lifetime’s holiday campaign, dubbed “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime.”
Even while juggling acting roles, Ashanti is working on her upcoming studio album, BraveHeart. Her latest single, “I Got It” featuring Rick Ross, is expected to be released later this month on her label Written Entertainment/eOne Music.
