Theo Wargo/Getty Images for VH1Ashanti‘s last album, Braveheart, released in 2014, debuted on the Billboard 200 at number ten. Since then, the R&B singer’s fans have been sitting tight in anticipation for her follow-up album. Now the wait is almost over.
The performer’s sixth studio album is slated to arrive later this year, but as she tells Billboard, there’s been one big misconception about the project. “The next album is absolutely not called Chapter VI,” she said. “But the music on there is incredible. I’m really excited. I can’t wait for people to hear the new music.”
Ashanti also said that in getting more personal on her newest album, she tapped into a side of herself that she didn’t dare express on her earlier tracks.
“There are certain things that five years ago there’s no way anyone could’ve gotten me to say certain things,” she reveals, “but this time around it’s like, ‘Hey, we’re going in 2016 going into 2017, and this is how I feel. This is how it is. This is where we are in life, with everything.’ I’m ready to do that.”
