Back in May, organizers announced the impressive line-up of Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill and Mos Def for Australia’s Soulfest, the country’s first-ever neo-soul, jazz and hip hop festival. However, the event has been cancelled just two weeks before its scheduled kickoff date.

Organizers have confirmed that the show was called off because it couldn’t sell enough tickets.

“It is with a heavy heart and great regret that Soulfest International advises that it has become necessary to cancel Soulfest and the subsequent sideshows, due to poor ticket sales,” a statement reads.  “Despite a stellar line-up of artists and the best promotional endeavors on Soulfest’s behalf, the event has simply not received the support via ticket sales, and the financial loss that would be incurred by the event if it were to go ahead as planned would be devastating.”

Soulfest was scheduled to take place in Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney, with sideshows in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney on October 20.
