Bassett, LaBelle, Devine, Grier, Rowland & more: A Black Lady Sketch Show trailer is jam-packed with guest stars


Credit: Leon Bennett/Getty Images for EssenceFollowing the news that Robin Thede and Issa Rae‘s new project A Black Lady Sketch Show would be premiering on HBO on August 2, a trailer for the series has dropped, and the list of guest stars is a who’s-who of black Hollywood.

In the trailer, we see glimpses of everyone from Kelly Rowland and Patti LaBelle, to Lil Rel Howeryand David Alan Grier, to Loretta Devine, Angela BassettYvette Nicole Brown and Laverne Cox, to Tia Mowry, Lena WaitheMarsai Martin and more.

A Black Lady Sketch Show is the first sketch comedy show created, written by and starring black women.  Thede, a former head writer for The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, executive-produces with Rae, and both are part of the core cast, which also includes Ashley Nicole Black, Gabrielle Dennis, and Quinta Brunson.

The trailer also gives us a look at some of the sketches, including one in which Angela Bassett appears as a woman in a “Bad B***h Support Group.” 

“There’s nothing wrong with being an O.K. b***h,” says Bassett, as the other women scream, “What???”

“As long as you’re not a basic b***h,” she clarifies.

A Black Lady Sketch Show debuts on HBO on August 2 at 11 p.m. ET/PT.
