ABC NewsTyler Perry is bringing back one of his classic series to television, thanks to BET.
Deadline has confirmed that BET will revive Perry’s family sitcom Tyler Perry’s House of Payne for a seventh season. The revived series will include the original series stars of LaVan Davis, Cassi Davis Patton, Lance Gross, Demetria McKinney, China Anne McClain, Larramie “Doc” Shaw, Keshia Knight Pulliam and Allen Payne.
Perry’s family comedy series, which aired on TBS from 2006 to 2012, is expected to pick up five years later with Davis’ Curtis Payne and his wife Ella, payed by Cassi Davis Patton, still dealing with the “problems of life with their quirky modern-day family.”
In addition to House of Payne series, BET has also given a green light to Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living, a new comedy series starring David Mann, Tamela Mann, J. Anthony Brown, Na’im Lynn, Courtney Nichole, Tayler Buck and Alex Henderson. This series will follow David Mann as his quirky character Mr. Brown, who “reluctantly invests in a dilapidated assisted living facility.”
Both series are expected to launch sometime this summer.
Meanwhile, as Perry gears up for two new projects on BET, one of his long-standing series on OWN will officially be coming to an end.
OWN has announced Perry’s If Loving You Is Wrong will premiere its fifth and final season on Tuesday, March 10 at 10:00 p.m. ET.
The drama series, which premiered on OWN in September 2014, follows the lives of “friends and frenemies that love and live in the same neighborhood.”
