The network announced the episode news after Pointer’s passing, thanking the soul singer for her contribution to music and the culture.
“We are profoundly saddened by the loss of Grammy-winning R&B pioneer and founding member of the legendary group The Pointer Sisters, Bonnie Pointer,” said BET President, Scott Mills in a statement. “She was a trailblazer, whose songs were not only chart-toppers but serve as anthems for many generations.”
“Her untimely passing comes not long before we have the honor to pay tribute to Bonnie and The Pointer Sisters during this Wednesday night’s episode of American Soul,” the statement continues. “We thank Bonnie for her tremendous contributions to music and American culture and we will cherish her memory forever.”

The series also stars Kelly Price, Jason Dirden, Iantha Richardson, Katlyn Nichol, and Christopher Jefferson. This season features a long list of guest stars that include Big Boi, Ledisi, Melanie Fiona, Demetria McKinney, London Brown, Darius McCrary among others.
