BET to air episode of ‘American Soul’ that will feature the Pointer Sisters

NBCU Photo Bank/NBCUniversal via Getty Images via Getty ImagesTonight’s episode of BET’s American Soul will help to honor a recently lost legend: Bonnie Pointer of the Pointer Sisters, who passed away on Monday at the age of 69.

The network announced the episode news after Pointer’s passing, thanking the soul singer for her contribution to music and the culture.

“We are profoundly saddened by the loss of Grammy-winning R&B pioneer and founding member of the legendary group The Pointer Sisters, Bonnie Pointer,” said BET President, Scott Mills in a statement. “She was a trailblazer, whose songs were not only chart-toppers but serve as anthems for many generations.”  

“Her untimely passing comes not long before we have the honor to pay tribute to Bonnie and The Pointer Sisters during this Wednesday night’s episode of American Soul,” the statement continues. “We thank Bonnie for her tremendous contributions to music and American culture and we will cherish her memory forever.”

American Soul, which debuted last year, chronicles the tumultuous life of the late Don Cornelius, the legendary host and producer of the nationally syndicated TV show Soul Train. On the series, Cornelius is played by Sinqua Walls.

The series also stars Kelly PriceJason Dirden, Iantha RichardsonKatlyn Nichol, and Christopher Jefferson. This season features a long list of guest stars that include Big BoiLedisi, Melanie FionaDemetria McKinneyLondon BrownDarius McCrary among others.

BET’s American Soul airs Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. ET.
