Parkwood/ColumbiaMany people believe the song “Love Drought” from Beyonce’s Lemonade is a diss track about Jay Z, however, the co-writer is setting the record straight.
Houston rapper Ingrid Burley tells Genius that the lyrics are not about Hova, but actually reflect her person frustration with Beyonce’s label, Parkwood Entertainment.
“Two of the people who were running the label at the time had lied to me and told me Beyonce wasn’t currently listening to any new music,” she says. Burley discovered that was not true when she was invited to a writing camp for Queen Bey’s new album. “I was so pissed… I was just thinking as I’m looping this beat I couldn’t get out of my head the fact that they just lied to me!”
Burley says she wrote the song in 30 minutes. The lyrics include, “Ten times out of nine, I know you’re lying / But nine times out of ten, I know you’re trying…And you’re caught up in your permanent emotions/All the loving I’ve been giving goes unnoticed.”
