Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, confirms to ABC News that Floyd’s family has accepted Mayweather’s offer to cover the costs of the June 9 service.

Floyd’s death has sparked worldwide protests for justice. The Houston native was killed on May 25 after being apprehended by police officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota. One of those officers, Derek Chauvin, was videotaped pinning Floyd to the ground with his knee on Floyd’s neck. Chauvin has since been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter. All four officers involved in the case have been fired.

On Monday, an independent autopsy revealed Floyd’s cause of death as “homicide caused by asphyxia due to neck and back compression that led to a lack of blood flow to the brain.”

Mayweather previously covered the funeral expenses of former boxer Genaro Hernandez, who died of cancer at age 45 in 2011.
