Boyz n the Hood director John Singleton reportedly hospitalized after suffering a stroke

Sources confirm to the publication that Oscar-nominated director and screenwriter checked himself into a hospital earlier this week after experiencing pain in his leg.  The stroke has been described as “mild.”

TMZ, which first reported the news, said according to a family member, Singleton’s stroke  may have been triggered by  a recent flight from Costa Rica.

After learning of the news this morning, many of Singleton’s celebrity friends already started to share their support and well-wishes online.

“Praying hard this morning for my friend @johnsingleton PULL THROUGH BABY,” tweeted actress Nia Long, who starred in Singleton’s first film Boyz n the Hood.

“Prayers up for @SHAFT6816 Pull thru brother!,” wrote Omar Epps. “The world needs your voice and vision. Prayers up for your family as well.”

Snoop Dogg, meanwhile, shared a touching photo of himself  and Singleton on Instagram with the message: “Pray 4 my brother. @johnsingleton.”

Singleton, whose 1991 film Boyz n the Hood was nominated for two Oscars — Best Director and Best Original Screenplay– was the youngest filmmaker to receivee nominations in those two categories. In addition to directing music videos for the likes of Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, the director has a long list of credits, which include Rosewood, Shaft, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Four Brothers, and more recently, his FX series Snowfall.
