Johnny Nunez/WireImageNew York rapper Fred the Godson has reportedly passed away after battling the COVID-19 coronavirus earlier this month.
Complex reports the Bronx rapper had been in the hospital for weeks and placed on a ventilator earlier this month, but lost his fight against the virus on Thursday.
His 2010 breakthrough Armageddon featured appearances from Styles P, Busta Rhymes, and more. He was featured in XXL‘s 2011 Freshmen class alongside Meek Mill, Kendrick Lamar, Big K.R.I.T, YG, and others.
Though he’d never sign to a major label or reach the heightened success of his peers, Fred the Godson would become a well-known rapper in the game known for his killer freestyles on Funk Flex radio and collaborations with Meek Mill, Jadakiss, Diddy, Jim Jones, and January’s release Training Day with Saturday Night Live‘s Jay Pharoah.
Fans and celebrities responded with tears and shock on social media. Tory Lanez responded to the news saying, “Wow that’s crazy,” in the comments on The Shade Room’s Instagram.
Pretty Ricky‘s Spectacular said, “Stay home please” with prayer hands.
