California Gov. Newsom announced that the state will give cash payments to immigrants in the country illegally. Illegal immigrants are not eligible for stimulus checks. He said the state will use a combination of taxpayer money and charitable contributions. The state will give 150,000 adults $500 each. California has an estimated 2 million illegal immigrants that makeup 10% of the state’s workforce. The state’s illegal immigrants paid $2.5 billion in state and local taxes last year.
