Dia Dipasupil/Getty ImagesCardi B made history at the 2020 American Music Awards Sunday night, where her “WAP” collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion won Favorite Song in the Rap/Hip Hop category.

Megan appeared on stage to accept the award on behalf of herself and Cardi B, and dedicated the award to her late mother, Holly, and her grandmother, whom she said was watching at home.

“Thank you everybody from me and Cardi. We super appreciate this,” said Megan.

This marks Megan’s first AMA win but its equally special for Cardi B, because it makes her the first artist to win the Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Song award twice, after previously winning in 2018 with her breakout hit single, “Bodak Yellow.”

Cardi took to Twitter to celebrate the historic win, revealing the reason she couldn’t attend the show was due to a scheduled dentist appointment.

“I wish I would’ve known that I was going to get an AMAs or something, I wouldn’t have went to the dentist and [messed] with my teeth,” Cardi said in an audio message. “Now I’m…talking all crazy. But I just wanted to say thank you everybody. I love you so much!”

Other highlights from the AMAs include Megan’s body-odie-odie performance of “Body,” from her Good News debut, and Lil Baby‘s electrifying performance of “Emotionally Scarred” from his 2020 album, My Turn.
