‘Cause this is Thriller — the remix: Listen now to new version of MJ classic

by

Epic/Legacy RecordingsIf Michael Jackson was still around and was releasing a new dance song, he’d probably get one of the world’s top deejays to remix it, right?  That’s why everybody should be O.K. with the fact that a remix of Michael’s classic “Thriller” is out today, created by superstar DJ Steve Aoki.

Thriller (Steve Aoki Midnight Hour Remix)” is included on the new MJ compilation Scream, which is out today.  It’s also available for download as a standalone single.  It’s still recognizable as the song that got the entire world doing the zombie dance, but it now sounds like a modern EDM track.

The new Scream album also features an immersive “augmented reality” experience, which you can access by Shazam-ing the poster that comes with the CD and vinyl versions of the album.  Billboards are also going up in major cities today which will also be Shazam-able and trigger a second augmented reality experience.

In addition to some of the late King of Pop’s most danceable hits — including “Dirty Diana,” “Leave Me Alone,” “Dangerous” and the title track — Scream also features “Blood on the Dance Floor X Dangerous,” a new five-song mashup that incorporates “Blood on the Dance Floor,” “Dangerous,” “This Place Hotel,” “Leave Me Alone,” and “Is It Scary.”

Of note on the album are two songs by The Jacksons: “Torture” and “This Place Hotel,” that latter of which was the first single ever to be written, composed and arranged solely by Michael.  In addition, the album features “Somebody’s Watching Me,” the 1985 Rockwell hit featuring a hook sung by Michael.

A glow-in-the-dark vinyl version of Scream is coming out October 27 — just in time for Halloween, of course.
