Hilary JonesCelebrity fitness trainer Mark Jenkins said D’Angelo‘s music video for “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” from his Voodoo album was a turning point in his career.
Jenkins detailed inspiring D’Angelo to go shirtless in an interview with HipHopDX. With a career span of over 20 years, his clientele includes Mary J. Blige, Q-Tip, Missy Elliott, Anderson .Paak and many others.
He said he helped D’Angelo transform his washboard abs and chiseled chest in three months, with two workouts a day and strict dieting.
“To D’s credit, he had a vision about how he wanted to look with the music. We got together and I heard the music,” he tells HipHopDX. “I said, ‘Man, it’d be crazy if you could do [the video] with no shirt on and just tell the story and be in shape.'”
“What was so great about it was that it inspired so many people to get into shape man,” Jenkins said. “That’s what’s so cool about it. That’s one of two times when I knew like, ‘Wow, I’m going to make an impact.'”
The other moment was training Diddy in 2003 during MTV’s Diddy Runs the City for the New York City Marathon.
