Chaka Khan may be one of the older dancers ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, but the singer is up for the physical demands of the show. The 62-year-old singer tells ABC Radio that her experience in the music business has prepared her for this chance of a lifetime.
“Yeah absolutely, mindsets, you know, to do different things and different sorts of bits. For instance, I’ve done some Broadway. I had to set my mind for Broadway,” the singer says. “I had to come away from the stage, away from the music and the mic and do that, which is sort of a mixture of this and singing, but this is a lot more physical.”
She adds that she’s mentally prepared for her debut. “Having a mindset, getting a mindset and following through,” she says will be her secret weapon.
The singer is set to hit the ballroom floor to her own song, 1984’s “I Feel For You,” alongside her partner Keo Motsepe.
Dancing with the Stars airs tonight, September 14 at 9 p.m. ET.
