After Al B. Sure! posted Tuesday on Instagram that Christopher Williams was in a coma, a post on Williams’ social media refutes that claim.

“Contrary to reports on social media, Christopher Williams is NOT in a coma and is in stable condition and resting comfortably,” reads a statement on the New Jack City star’s Instagram page. “Christopher sends his most heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all of his fans for their prayers and well wishes.”

Sure!, who is Williams’ cousin, had posted a photo of the two of them with the caption, “Please pray for my better looking twin brother in a coma.”

The exact nature of Williams’ condition has not been revealed.

After Sure! made his post, there was an outpouring of prayers from numerous stars, including including Big Daddy Kane, Stephanie Mills, Bill Bellamy, Cynthia Bailey and DJ Quik.

Williams, 54, is a nephew of the legendary vocalist Ella Fitzgerald. He hit number one on the Billboard R&B chart in 1991 with “I’m Dreamin’,” from the New Jack City soundtrack. The soul singer also starred in the film in the role of Kareem Akbar, who was a member of the CMB crime organization run by Nino Brown, portrayed by Wesley Snipes.

In the 90s, Williams briefly dated Halle Berry. When the Oscar-winning actress revealed that an abusive ex-boyfriend had assaulted her and caused her to lose hearing in her right ear, many assumed she was referring to Christopher. He denies that he harmed her.

Last year, Williams was featured in an episode of TV One’s Unsung series in which he discussed his relationship with Berry, and also Stacey Dash, who is the mother of his son, Austin. He also described an infamous incident when he trashed the Uptown Records office in New York City over frustration with his career.
