Black, bold and beautiful is the only way to describe Essence’s new summer issue, featuring CiaraTeyana Taylor and Iman on not one but three covers.

Inside the July/August issue, the leading ladies dish on how they’ve managed to carve out their espective lanes. For Ciara, the multi-talented mom of two, that means staying devout in her faith.

“My faith has carried me through every challenge and triumph,” she reflects. “When I was younger and wanting things to happen when I wanted them to happen, I could never have imagined that 15 years later I’d be having the time of my life.”

Amid a messy public split from Future and an ensuing custody battle over their son, Future Jr., the “Level Up” singer has still managed to do just that. This past year, Ciara launched her own label imprint, Beauty Marks Entertainment, and gifted fans with an album of the same name, her first in nearly five years.

“No matter how much success you have, I believe there’s always an opportunity to grow and learn something new,” says Ciara.

For Taylor, her truth lies in no longer existing for the pleasure of others. While the singer and budding director broke the internet as Kanye West’s muse for his “Fade” video, the sky remains the limit for her promising career.

Following the release of her much-delayed, acclaimed K.T.S.E album, Teyana’s launched several business ventures: a nail salon, a fitness program and an all-female production company.

“Being a mom makes you move differently, think differently and speak differently,” Teyana says. “Once I had Junie, I realized I was living for so much more.”

She adds:  “I’m just teaching her early: ‘You are beautiful, you are smart, you are magic.”

The Essence summer issue is out today.
