Courtesy of Cafe Mocha RadioIn celebration of Women’s History Month, Café Mocha will honor seven female trailblazers at its annual Salute Her Awards on March 21.
Hosted by Emmy-winner Loni Love, the ceremony highlights women known for their resilience and innovation. Those honorees include actor and author Holly Robinson Peete; Emmy, Grammy and Tony-winner Cynthia Erivo; Black Voters Matter creator LaTosha Brown; Slutty Vegan founder Pinky Cole; New York Times bestselling author Denene Millner, COVID-19 research scientist Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett; and President/CEO of National Coalition on Black Civic Participation Melanie Campbell.
Musical performances during the evening will come from Dr. Dorinda Clark Cole, singer/songwriter Eric Benet; Grammy-winner Gloria Gaynor and musician/poet Morgan Harper Nichols.
The virtual ceremony will stream on March 21 at 7 p.m. ET on SaluteHer.com.
Meanwhile, another gathering of Black excellence will occur later this year. After going virtual in 2020, the American Black Film Festival has announced it will return to Miami Beach for an in-person fest.
The annual gathering, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, will take place from November 3-7, and then continue virtually from November 8-14.
Similar to past years, the festival will feature studio screenings, panel discussions, and networking events to celebrate Black entertainment, and provide a platform for Black and Brown filmmakers to tell their stories.
“ABFF has served as a place of inspiration and a launching pad for so many great filmmakers and artists, and we remain committed to using our platform to catapult a new generation of Black and Brown filmmakers forward,” said Nicole Friday, President, ABFF Ventures.
Festival registration and call for submissions will open March 23, 2021 at abff.com. The virtual festival can be streamed on www.abffplay.com staring November 8.
