Demetria McKinney Says Music Is Her Focus, Not Reality TV

The actress/singer, who is known for her work as Janine Shelton-Payne on the TBS sitcom Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, says she’s serious about releasing her album, Officially Yours, but she’s been extremely meticulous about making sure it’s right.

McKinney tells ABC Radio, “I have a couple of tracks that I need to get on there. You know how important it is when you want your baby to be ready, you want your baby to be right? So you know I’ve got a couple of tracks I’m getting on there, but it will be out very, very soon.”

While the actress says she’s officially done with The Real Housewives of Atlanta, on which she was a guest star during season seven, McKinney admits that her time on the show wasn’t totally in vain because of her song, “Unnecessary Trouble” with Kandi Burress.

[It’s called] ‘Unnecessary Trouble’ and it stems from that opportunity that Housewives took to take shots at my relationships and the one that Kandi is in now as well. So big shots to Kandi for turning lemonade out of lemons,” she tells ABC Radio.

While she’s putting the finishing touched on her record, McKinney, isn’t wasting any time. She’s featured on Bounce TV’s Saints & Sinners and she’s performing live.

“I’ve been touring with R. Kelly and that has been phenomenal. And we came to NOLA just a couple of weeks ago and [the audience was] amazing. So it’s been a great journey,” she says.
