Did Ciara and Russell Wilson Pull Wedding Out of NC to Protest Anti-LBGT Law?

by

Denise Truscello/WireImageWhen Ciara and professional football player Russell Wilson tied the knot in London, England July 5, they were also taking a stand against North Carolina’s anti-LGBT law, according to one report.

The couple had reportedly planned to wed in North Carolina — where Wilson went to college — but called it off due to the state’s controversial House Bill 2, known as the Bathroom Bill, their wedding planner, Mindy Weiss tells The Knot.

The state’s restrictive law forces transgender men and women to only use bathrooms matching the gender they were born into, rather than the one with which they identify.

Ciara, 30, and Wilson, 27, also considered Paris, France as a possible location, according to Weiss, but were forced to look elsewhere when they learned their wedding date would coincide with Fashion Week.
