Or maybe he’s leaving the show?
The actor, who plays Jamal Lyon on the hit FOX drama series, set the blogosphere ablaze shortly after midnight with a tweet that makes it seem as if he’s leaving the show.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time w/ @EmpireFOX,” Jussie tweeted. “I love you all. Truth. Time 2 make a record & some movies. #Empire”
Smollett is a former publicist for his sister, actress Jurnee Smollett-Bell, so he may only be teasing to keep die-hard fans in suspense about this week’s cliffhanger. It seems unlikely he’s leaving the show — Empire debuted in January of 2015 and was an immediate hit, making him and other of his co-stars overnight sensations. Since then, he’s appeared on magazine covers, performed on American Idol and at The White House, and topped the Billboard charts with Empire-related music projects.
Smollett could only be announcing his plans for the summer break before shooting on Empire resumes in Chicago in a few months.
