Dr. Jen Ashton weighs in on Beyonce’s reported twin deliveries, new responsibilities and bounce back timeline

Dr. Ashton, who has successfully delivered more than 1,500 newborns — including many that were twins, says the Carters’ delivery room was undoubtedly well-prepared for the twins’ birth, with “literally two of everyone.”

“There are twice as many anesthesiologists, twice as many nurses, twice as many obstetricians, two neonatal or pediatrics teams — and there’s nothing more exciting,” Dr. Ashton tells ABC Radio.

However, even with preparation, the doctor says a mother of twins could easily feel “overwhelmed.”

“I had a hard enough time with one baby at a time. I think that it could be overwhelming,” she explains. “I don’t think it’s twice the work, I think it’s exponentially more work.”

Although Jen believes that a “celebrity like Beyonce “could be ‘better’ than before with time,” the doctor asks that friends, family and fans be sympathetic to the superstar and not make judgements on her age, and personal choices as a mother.

“My only opinion as an obstetrician and a mother is to be non-judgemental,” she says. “I don’t think it’s anyone else’s place to say 35 is too young, 35 is too old. It’s what’s right for that woman and her family unit. And as long as there is no medical issue, I don’t have a problem with it and other people shouldn’t either.”
