Drake Sets 2016 American Music Awards Nominations Record

Dick Clark ProductionsDrake started from the bottom and now he’s here — with a record-setting amount of American Music Awards nominations.

The superstar leads this year’s pack of American Music Awards nominees with a whopping thirteen nods, besting the late King of Pop himself — Michael Jackson — who set a record back in 1984 with 11 nods.    

Drake’s current album, Views, topped the Billboard 200 at number one and is the entertainer’s sixth number one album.

Rihanna earned seven nominations, including Artist of the Year, Favorite Female Artist in both the Soul/R&B and Pop/Rock Categories and Collaboration of the Year category for her single featuring Drake, “Work.”  

Beyoncé received four nominations, including Tour of the Year, and will face off against Janet Jackson and Rihanna in the Favorite Female Artist — Soul/R&B category. 

The Weeknd is up for three awards, including Artist of the Year, along with Drake, Beyoncé and Rihanna. In addition, Chris BrownBryson TillerFetty WapDesiigner and Future all received nominations.

The 2016 American Music Awards will air on ABC November 20.
