Ella Mai announces “Boo’d Up“ summer tour

Gus Stewart/RedfernsAs Ella Mai’s “Boo’d Up” remains at the top of the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart for a second week in a row, the British singer announced she’s headlining a tour this summer.

“BOO’D UP. THE TOUR. tickets on sale friday at,”  she tweeted. “NUMBER 6 ON THE HOT 100, NUMBER 1 AT URBAN RADIO can’t wait to see you all and celebrate my favourite way possible.”

The 15-city “Boo’d Up” tour off kicks August 6 in Dallas, and continues through August 28 in Seattle. Tour stops include Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago, and New York City.

Mai’s first tour experience was opening for Kehlani on her SweetSexySavage trek last year. She remembers that Kehlani and her team treated her better than she could have expected.

“I know some people say, on tours you don’t even really get a chance to always speak to the main act depending on the setup, but it was literally like we were all one big family,” Mai tells ABC Radio.

“I didn’t feel like, ‘OK, you’re the opener,'” Mai says. “It was all just like, ‘We’re all here to help each other and all here to have a good time.’”

Mai was prepared for Kehlani’s fans to be indifferent, so she was happy to receive a positive response from the audience.

“Every show that we did, even if people didn’t know who I was, I had people’s attention,” Mai says. “I would go to the merch booth after the show and like meet everyone, say hi and stuff,” Mai says.

“It was really cool to interact with people on a personal level. I don’t think I could have had a better first tour,” she adds. “It was a really good experience.”
