Brandon XayElla Mai is ready to perform on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest Thursday night. The London-born singer says it’s an honor to return to such a legendary American TV show for a second time, following her 2018 performance.

“To be a part of the legacy of this show is amazing because I moved to New York when I was 12,” says the Grammy-winning singer, who often celebrated the holidays in New York with her family.

“I always used to watch the show and I always used to watch the ball drop. So to be back and just continue to be a part of it is really special to me,” she tells ABC Audio.

Ella says she “wanted to come back and celebrate with” fans despite “having such a weird year [where] everybody’s been quarantining” due to COVID-19.

Above everything, she says she’s mostly “excited” to spread love with a live performance of her new single, “Not Another Love Song,” from Los Angeles.

“I’m most excited about being able to perform in front of a crowd,” says Ella. “All…or most of the performances this year have been remote. So I’m really excited to be in front of people again and have that energy because it’s very, very important as a performer to have that.”

Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest begins Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
