Still, the singer tells PrideSource that she remembers meeting two in particular who left her feeling “charged up” — President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama.
“They were talking about the music, and he was such a rock star. He was just so chilled out, and he made us feel relaxed and charged up. He made us feel like we were a part of some football team. He’s a true leader,” Emeli recalls of meeting the Obamas for the first time before performing for the couple in 2013.
It’s not the first time that Sandé was left feeling shocked after meeting someone who she once considered an unlikely fan.
The BRIT Award winner also once met Mariah Carey on the set ofAmerican Idol, whose fateful words left Emeli “completely starstruck.”
“I met her on American Idol once and she said, ‘You’re the girl who’s writing all those songs!’ and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, Mariah Carey knows that I write songs!” added Emeli.
Emeli Sandé’s highly anticipated sophomore album, Long Live the Angels, arrives November 11.
