According to Hits Daily Double, industry insiders estimate that the set will sell approximately 115,000 to 125,000 copies in its first week, which includes on-demand streaming and digital track sales.
That could have it in contention for the top slot on the Billboard 200 chart, where it will have to fight off a new album from Madonna, Rebel Heart. Billboard reports that if the Empire album bows at #1, it’ll be the first TV soundtrack to top the chart since 2010’s Glee, the Music: Journey to Regionals.
The soundtrack features contributions from Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Juicy J, Rita Ora, Charles Hamilton and Estelle as well as original songs from cast members like Terence Howard, Jussie Smollett, Serayah McNeal and Bryshere “Yazz” Gray,
The official sales tally will be released next Wednesday.
