Erykah Badu to soothe the nation as the first guest on Apple Music’s new show, ‘The Message’

by

Badu World MarketNeo-soul titan Erykah Badu will soothe the anxious hearts and souls of many across the nation today with her “Now Breathe Like It” playlist, as we await the results of the 2020 election.

According to Billboard, Ms. Badu put together a playlist of inspirational songs for the first episode of Apple Music’s new show, The Message, including Earth, Wind & Fire‘s “Africano,” James Brown‘s “King Heroin,” Donny Hathaway‘s “Lord Help Me,” Quincy Jones’ “Everything Must Change,” and “Come Into Knowledge,” by soul-jazz band RAMP.

Hosted by Ebro Darden, the playlist and interview series aim to amplify Black voices and further the dialogue about the unrest and inequalities in the United States and abroad.

“These are songs that I truly and really wake up to every day, that I play in the car when I need it,” Erykah tells Darden in a preview from the interview. “It’s the vibe for me, it’s the freak for me, it’s what uplifts me or brings me to tears or makes me very, very, very sad. The kind of sad that you want to feel when there’s some good music in your spirit. The tears that bring joy. These are real for me. And sharing them with you is a very personal and real thing for me.”

“This has been a very long and short and long and short year,” Erykah shared. “2020 kind of describes how my life is…dramatic pauses and crazy endings and rapid beginnings.”

Erykah Badu’s The Message interview will be available today at 4 p.m. ET on Apple Music.
