Fantasia Barrino believes it’s a little soon for American Idol to return to television

by

ABC/Fred WatkinsIn a Sunday night appearance on Watch What Happens Live, American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino confirmed that she was not invited to be a judge on ABC’s upcoming reboot of the reality competition series.

She also told the show’s host, Andy Cohen, that she thinks it’s a “little soon” for the show to return to the small screen.

It went off the air in 2015 after 15 seasons.

“Listen, it was what, 15 years? You know, how many Idols are you gonna have?” she explained to Andy.

Fantasia then continued, “But, hey, at the end of the day they’re blessing people and opening doors for people…my only advice is, you have to bring in good judges. Hey, if they call me, I’ll go.”

After finding out who the judges for the 16th season of Idol are — Lionel Richie, pop superstar Katy Perry and country singer Luke Bryan — the “Truth Is” singer also reacted with a simple “Yeah,” but quickly assured Andy and his audience that the reboot will “be good.”

She adds, “It’s really soon, but hey, it’ll be some people that come out the woodwork that’s gonna sing, [and] hopefully bless people through the television. So, hopefully it’ll be good.”

Fans can watch the exchange between Andy Cohen and Fantasia on YouTube now.

ABC’s reboot of American Idol debuts March 11.
