FL COVID-19 Data Chief Says She Was Removed from Post after Refusing to Censor Data

by

Rebekah Jones, the chief data scientist at the Florida Department of Health who was praised for her transparency regarding COVID-19 data, has been removed from her job.  Jones told WPEC-TV that she was removed after refusing to manipulate the data to support efforts to reopen the state. In an email to her colleagues, she wrote that she wanted the team to maintain the same level of accessibility and transparency that she did and said her commitment to the data was “the reason I am no longer managing it. Since her removal on May 5th, the site, which was completely open to the public, has crashed several times.  The health department won’t comment on Jones’ removal but scientists have blasted Florida’s leadership for “government censorship.”

Why do you think Rebekah Jones was removed from her leadership position?
