Footage from Unfinished Marvin Gaye Biopic Surfaces Online

by

MotownAn interesting new twist in the years-in-the-making Marvin Gaye biopic Sexual Healing has emerged. As you may recall, the making of this film has been fraught with drama — between Gaye’s son and ex-wife rallying against it, Lenny Kravitz dropping out and being replaced by Law & Order star Jesse L. Martin, and, according to Indiewire.com, production ceasing with three weeks left to shoot as financing dried up.

At this point it remains unclear if the movie — which focuses mainly on Gaye’s time in Belgium where he recorded his final album, 1982’s Midnight Love —  will ever be completed.  But the site briefly posted four minutes of exciting promo footage from the unfinished film, directed by Julien Temple and starring Brendan Gleeson and Clarke Peters alongside Martin as the troubled Motown star.   Unfortunately the video was removed from YouTube.

The site reports that it also came across a scheduled released date April 1, 2014 — the 30th anniversary of Marvin Gaye’s death.  That’s a Tuesday, which leads Indiewire to speculate that a direct-to-video release of the film, which it says was 70 percent complete, could be in the offing.
