by

ABCGabrielle Union is opening up about her family’s decision to support Dwyane Wade‘s eleven-year-old son Zion, who celebrated at Miami Beach Pride Festival on April 7.

“It feels normal,” the actress told Us Weekly while attending an event honoring Black Panther costume designer Ruth E. Carter event over the weekend. “My mom took me to my first pride at eight years old. We moved to San Francisco, and it’s kind of part of being a global citizen.”

Union says that as result of her upbringing, it only made sense that she too support her stepson as he navigates his identity.

“People talk a lot about diversity and inclusion, but they don’t actually mean it,” the Being Mary Jane star added. “In our household, we mean that, and that’s why the entire household went to pride.”

As previously reported, Union, her oldest stepson Zaire, 17, and her 5-month-old infant daughter, Kaavia, all attended the Gay Pride festivities. Meanwhile, her hubby, Dwyane, who was unable able to attend due to a NBA game in Toronto, showed support for his son on social media.

“Zion had his own cheering section today,” Wade wrote under a photo of his family members. “Wish I was there to see you smile kid!
