Ginuwine and Timbaland celebrate 20th anniversary of ‘100% Ginuwine’: “One of the best albums ever made”

Epic RecordsGinuwine and Timbaland are celebrating the 20th anniversary of 100% Ginuwine, which the famed producer calls a classic.  He tells Billboard, “I think 100% Ginuwine will go down as one of the best albums ever made.”

The double-platinum project, released March 16, 1999, was Ginuwine’s second album.  It featured the hit singles “What’s So Different?,” “So Anxious” and “Same Ol’ G.”

Timbaland also co-produced Ginuwine’s 1996 double-platinum debut, Ginuwine…the Bachelor, and as they recorded the follow-up, Ginuwine tells Billboard he was afraid they wouldn’t be able to replicate their success.

“[It was] very scary because you always hear about the sophomore jinx,” Ginuwine says. “I was like, ‘Man, how am I going to top this?’”

But 100% Ginuwine was even more successful than its predecessor, reaching #1 on the Billboard R&B chart.

Tiimbaland, who’s worked with everyone from Drake, Rihanna and JAY-Z to AaliyahMissy Elliott andJustin Timberlake, calls Ginuwine one of his favorite artists.

“He broke barriers,” Tim says. “He was out of the box with his style.”

Ginuwine was very close to Aaliyah, who died in 2001, and the two recorded the duet “Final Warning” for 100% Ginuwine. “I definitely miss her,” he says.

The two weren’t speaking at the time of her death due to “business reasons,” he says, but their mutual friend Missy Elliott helped him to forget their beef.

As he reveals to Billboard, “Missy came to me one time and she said, ‘I had a dream. Aaliyah told me to tell you that she loves you and she forgives you.’”

Both Ginuwine and Timbaland say they hope to record at least one more project together, but as Timbaland notes, “To make that magic again, everybody has to be in the right headspace.”
