Giving’ ’em what they love: Janelle Monae sets Dirty Computer emotion picture date

by

Atlantic RecordsJanelle Monae‘s forthcoming album Dirty Computer arrives April 27, but the singer has plan to drop a 44-minute short film — which she calls an “emotion picture” —  the day before its release.

According to Billboard, fans will be able to watch Janelle’s film, called Dirty Computer: An Emotion Picture, exclusively on MTV and BET channels worldwide on April 26.

She tells the publication, “I’m always trying to expand out from the stereo speakers and tell stories visually and in different ways.”

She also explains the concept behind the film: “Dirty Computer is a near-future story about a citizen who finds love and danger in a totalitarian society. She’s an outlaw because she’s being herself.”

She adds, “Overall, I want to reflect what’s happening in the streets right now, and what might happen tomorrow if we don’t band together and fight for love.”

Monae released the trailer for Dirty Computer: An Emotion Picture in February.

Her heart-pounding music videos for “Make Me Feel” and “Django Jane” are expected to be included in the short film.

Thor actress Tessa Thompson, who fans may remember from the trailer and from Janelle’s music video for “Pynk”, co-stars with the singer in Dirty Computer

Dirty Computer is the follow-up to Monae’s 2013 CD, The Electric Lady

It’s available now to pre-order.
