Gov. Abbott Says If COVID19 is Not Contained There Will Be Another Lockdown

by

Texas health officials reported another record day of novel coronavirus infections Saturday at 10,351, with a record 10,083 hospitalizations across the state.

There were also 99 new fatalities reported on Saturday, bringing the death toll in Texas to 3,112.

The rising COVID19 cases prompted Governor Greg Abbott to warn Friday that if the spread of the virus doesn’t slow down, “the next step would have to be another lockdown.”

“Things will get worse, and let me explain why,” he told KLBK TV in Lubbock. “The deaths that we’re seeing announced today and yesterday — which are now over 100 — those are people who likely contracted COVID-19 in late May.

“The worst is yet to come as we work our way through that massive increase in people testing positive.”

Abbott had been put on blast for several months for resisting calls for a statewide mask mandate, which he eventually issued over a week ago.
