Grammy- and Oscar-winning producer D’Mile says EGOT status is looking more possible to reach

This year, producer Dernst “D’Mile” Emile II took home his first Grammy, for producing H.E.R.‘s single, “I Can’t Breathe,” and his first Oscar, for H.E.R.’s “Fight for You,” which won Best Original Song for its inclusion in the film Judas and the Black Messiah.

D’Mile tells ABC Audio he never imagined he’d be so close to reaching EGOT status, which means winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.

“No, I’m not even thinking I’m gonna get to EGOT status, that’s the thing. It’s like I don’t ever think that’s what’s going to happen. But it’s happening,” he says. “With every milestone that I’m hitting, it’s looking more possible, but I never really was thinking about that.”

D’Mile says he watched the 2020 Grammy Awards at home and attended this year’s Academy Awards ceremony in person. Yet the award-winning R&B producer admits he fantasized about being on the red carpet as far back as high school.

“I don’t know what it was for…the Grammys or the Oscars. And I would have my wife with me, and it happened, really, at the Oscars, so that was amazing,” he explains. “But besides that, I was thinking I would be there, not be nominated, and I got all of it, and then we won and all that. It’s amazing.”
