The show will also be written and directed by a variety of black women, including Lauren Ashley Smith, the head writer of Thede’s former BET late-night show, The Rundown. Smith will also co-produce.
The new series falls under Rae’s overall production deal with HBO.
This is the latest project for Thede, whose late night show was cancelled after one season. Prior to that, the comedian served as a head writer and correspondent for The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore on Comedy Central.
