I Ain’t Mad at Ya: Kat Graham responds to Jada Pinkett-Smith’s All Eyez on Me criticism

by

ABC RadioIf there’s one person who seems a bit baffled by Jada Pinkett-Smith‘s criticism of All Eyez on Me, it’s Kat Graham, who plays a young Jada in the newly-released Tupac Shakur biopic.

On the red carpet with E! News, Kat says, “When I first got the role, I reached out to her a year-and-a-half ago. And the point of reaching out to her, as well as the other producers of the film, was to ensure the integrity of the story and the character.”

Kat goes on, “I spoke to [Smith] last week and she had nothing but support, so I don’t know. You’ll have to ask her.”

On the day of the movie’s release last past Friday, Jada tweeted to fans that the “reimagining of my relationship to Pac has been deeply hurtful.”

However, the Girls Trip star gave her blessing on Twitter to both Graham and Demetrius Shipp Jr., who portrays Pac, writing, “This is no fault of yours. Thank you for bringing so much heart and spirit to your roles. You both did a beautiful job with what you were given. Thank you both.”

Kat also has nothing but good to say about Jada: “I have a lot of love for her and a lot of support and I hope that people just see the movie and make the choice for themselves,” she tells E! News.

“At the end of the day, this is just to honor this man’s legacy and his incredible life.”

All Eyez on Me debuted in third place at the box office last weekend, earning an estimated $26.4 million.
