India.Aire is not happy with Fashion Police co-host Giuliana Rancic‘s remarks about Zendaya Coleman‘s dreadlock hairstyle.

Coleman referred to India’s song “I Am Not My Hair” in slamming Rancic for saying of her during a post-Oscars episode of Fashion Police,  “I feel like she smells like patchouli oil. Or weed. Maybe weed.”

Rancic has since apologized but India has chimed in with her feelings on the incident.

“We need more more compassion in this world. Period… So I’m not mad at Giuliana Rancic. I’m sad at her,”  India wrote on her Tumblr page. “I’m sad that things like this keep happening. I’m sad that there’s an actual form of entertainment where people are excused to be snarky and unkind, that’s the real issue.”

India continued, “What I’m baffled by is how we put people in boxes so easily… [The remark is[ offensive. It has a racist edge. But also it’s also just off base. Way off base. This is why people are mad… I love you Zendaya. You’re empowerment and self definition is the most beautiful thing here!”

Meanwhile Coleman accepted Rancic’s public apology. “Giuliana, I appreciate your apology and am glad it was a learning experience for you and for the network,” Zendaya wrote via Instagram. “I hope that others negatively affected by her words can find it in their hearts to accept her apology as well.”
