Issa Rae to write, star and produce ‘Perfect Strangers’ remake

by

Merie W. Wallace/HBOIssa Rae has added another film to her growing list of projects.

According to Variety, Rae will write, produce and star an English-language adaptation of Paolo Genovese’s Italian feature film Perfetti Sconosciuti, or Perfect Strangers.

The upcoming feature follows a group of friends who play a high-stakes game during a dinner party: They put their phones upright on the table and only make calls and texts in public to prove they have nothing to hide.

“I’m really looking forward to bringing this funny and compelling story to a new demographic,” said Rae in a statement. “I loved the original film and think the story will resonate with audiences here as well.”

The original film, released in 2016, later created multiple remakes in various countries like China, Spain, Greece, Russia, Hungary, France, Korea and Turkey. The Italian film later won the award for best screenplay for an international narrative feature at the Tribeca Film Festival.

This is latest project for Rae, who created and stars in her hit HBO series Insecure. She also soon star in Universal’s upcoming romantic drama The Photograph and Paramount’s Lovebirds.
