Janelle Monae Postpones Tour Dates for Vocal Rest

by

ANDREW ZAEH/AtlanticJanelle Monae has announced that she has postponed three dates on her current tour due to “mandatory vocal rest.”

According to her official website, doctors have ordered the singer to refrain from performing. “Not doing so could possibly result in damage to my vocal cords,” she wrote in an open letter to fans posted on the site.

Monae adds the diagnosis has made her “heartsick and shaken because I live for this: connecting with you and giving you a one of a kind concert experience.”

“But alas, apparently even the most expertly designed android breaks down sometimes and must recharge,” she concedes before promising to see her fans soon and “stronger than ever.”

The new dates for her concerts in Anaheim, San Diego and Phoenix, which were scheduled from Wednesday, November 5 through Friday, November 7, will be announced at a later time. However, the singer is expected to return to the stage in time for a scheduled November 9 show in Dallas.
